Children vaccines by Tier Pediatrics

Setting the Record Straight: Child Vaccines and Pediatrics

Tier Pediatrics prioritizes your child’s health and well-being. We understand that some parents may have questions or concerns about vaccines, especially given recent misinformation circulating.

Addressing Misconceptions:

A recent claim suggests that pediatrics is primarily reliant on vaccine revenue, and this “source” of income is used to enhance physicians’ bottom-line revenue growth. This is simply not true. As a healthcare provider, we prioritize your child’s health and well-being. We provide vaccines to comply with New York State School Immunization Requirements, protecting your child from preventable diseases.

While vaccines are an essential part of our practice, let’s break down the financial realities:

Tier Pediatrics Revenue Breakdown:

  • 60% Medicaid: The vaccine administration fee is capped at $20 for our Medicaid patients. This translates to roughly $60,000 annually in reimbursement for vaccinating Medicaid patients.
  • 38% Private Insurance: The administration fee for private insurance is $35. We reimburse private insurance patients an average of $66,500 per year.
  • 2% Self-Pay/Sliding Fee Discount: There is no administration fee for self-pay or sliding fee patients.

Total Vaccine Revenue: Our annual revenue of about $126,500 is insufficient to cover the cost of hiring a doctor. Most of that money goes towards buying private vaccines for our clinic. Additionally, we do not receive bonus payments based on vaccination rates. Other practices may have insurance or vaccine manufacturer agreements, but we do not.

Our Focus: Protecting Your Child

The primary reason we prioritize vaccinations is to keep your child healthy. Vaccines are essentially “updates” for your child’s immune system, helping it recognize and fight off serious diseases. They have undergone rigorous testing for safety and effectiveness.

Addressing Concerns:

Vaccines can sometimes cause mild side effects, like a sore arm or low fever. However, serious side effects are infrequent. The benefits of protection from diseases like measles or whooping cough far outweigh the risks.
